St Giles Nether Whitacre Bellringers

New Year 2022

1/1/2022

We last rang the new year celebration back in 2019 but then only managed to ring five and have not rung it properly since 2018. This year we met with a few more than we needed to ring the old year out half muffled and then ring 2022 in with open bells. We missed Ian and Jane who are now based elsewhere and remembered David and Dick (who no doubt heard us from the churchyard) and both would of approved of the nice touch of Plain Bob Doubles that welcomed the New Year in.

Happy New Year to all.

New Year 2020

Four of us met to ring in the New Year and welcome 2020. We still managed to ring five and make welcoming noise but we missed others who were ill, particularly David and Hazel along with Ian.

Once again we managed to welcome 2019 with bells. This year we had a few more than usual which allowed us to ring some nice rounds and some methods too. For once we made the effort to properly muffle the old year out and then after a swift change welcome the new year with open ringing.

New Year 2016

2/1/2016

Welcome to 2016. Once again we managed to ring. We rang a pleasant five bells despite one having to ring two bells. We even managed a selfie which perhaps we should have done in previous years but at least we have now caught up with the times. Dick, Ian, Quentin and Helen rang to wish the village a happy New Year.

New Year ringing

A group of seven of us joined to ring in the New Year of 2015 with some good rounds and basic methods even after the festivities. Many thanks to all who rang and helped Whitacre continue the tradition of ringing in the New Year.

Happy New Year 2014

Once again we managed to ring in the New Year and actually had some really quite nice ringing. The last touch of stedman doubles was especially good and made a pleasing start to 2014. We even managed record the event for posterity with our mixture of local band and visitors

New Year

1/1/2013

A happy New Year to all. We did ring the new 2013 year in and mourn the passing of 2012 with six hardy souls meeting at 11.30pm. We had a busy ringing day as we had nearly all rung for the wedding at St Giles earlier that day but at least this meant the bells had been left up and did not need raising. Did mean we decided not to ring the bells in their traditional half muffled state before midnight in case any of you were listening hard and could not tell the difference. This year there was none. No prizes but well done if you noticed.
If you fancy a new challenge and want to met nice people why not come along and give bellringing a try. No experience or rthymn needed.

New year resolutions

24/1/2002

The group has been preparing for Christmas services and the New Year will now have passed. Although the bells were rung for the Christmas services at St Giles and St Johns sadly the bells did not ring out to welcome the New Year as usual due to the lack if enough local ringers. Usually the village would love to hear the old year being ring out half muffled like the remembrance bells. Then after midnight the  bells are rung the welcome the New year.

The tower had its outing at the beginning of December along the A38 in Birmingham from Northfield to Perry Barr. A surprising number of local ringers had not travelled to these towers before. We had good weather and an excellent standard of ringing was achieved most of the day.

Why not make it a new year resolution to come and join out friendly group?
